Martin Tessler

Posted on Thu, 31 Jul 2008 by KiM

Martin Tessler is a photographer based in Vancouver who’s photographs are frequently featured among Canada’s best shelter magazines (and American ones such as Metropolitan Home). “His interior shots have an immediacy and an intimacy that comes from faultless styling and a mastery of lighting”. The photos above? Gorgeous!!! (I want that lamp!)

Black and white debate

Posted on Thu, 31 Jul 2008 by KiM

Ashley of the blog Free Form emailed with a bedroom decor problem: “I am moving to a new apartment and thought I should really concentrate on decorating my bedroom. I kind of have my room in black and white right now but I didn’t do a great job if it. So I am wondering, do you think I should try and revamp the Black and White theme or scratch it for colours?” She posted on her blog some inspiration she found for black and white and also did one with colour. I say if you’ve got black and white going on and you like it (except the execution of it) then work with what you have. Since I don’t know what Ashley’s working with, I went through my photo stash and found photos of predominantly black and white bedrooms. I do like the idea of introducing a colour (pale pink, pale blue, acid yellow…), or even just some timber pieces added in to soften the look.

I think my favourite inspiration would have to be Erin of Design for Mankind‘s bedroom below. The wall colour tones down the harshness of the black and white and is perfect for a bedroom.

Hello yellow

Posted on Wed, 30 Jul 2008 by midcenturyjo

I was searching through thousands of photos looking for a little sunshine yellow inspiration for a project I’m cooking up when I came upon this room by Robert Passal. Kim featured him way back here. (Have we really been blogging that long?) Love the yellow, the vintage portraits and the quirky accessories. I just want to curl up in that tufted green dream of a chair and ponder where on earth did those hoofed ottomans come from! Anyway just had to share.

Ann Lindberg

The photography of Ann Lindberg is nothing short of spectacular. Not only is the lighting perfect and the composition creative, but the spaces are bright and eclectic and fabulously boho. I think I need a moment to compose myself.

Per Ranung

Per Ranung is an absolute genius photographer. I cannot get enough of his portfolio – the lighting is incredible. He has worked for several great shelter magazines such as Elle Interi?r, Living Etc and Elle Decoration. I love this part of his biography: “His dream assignment? To photograph exactly the same chair – for two weeks.” LOL.
